The Web of Data (Book)

This book concisely brings together the key standards and best practices relating to modelling, querying, validating and linking machine-readable data and semantics on the Web. Alongside practical examples and formal definitions, the book shows how these standards contribute to – and have been used thus far on – the "Web of Data": a machine readable evolution of the Web marked by increased automation, enabling powerful Web applications capable of discovering, cross-referencing, and organising data from numerous websites in mere seconds.

On this webpage we offer material to complement the book, including solutions to the exercises, interactive examples, slides for classes, and a section for comments and questions.

The book has been published by Springer.

Slides for Classes

The author teaches a course called the Web of Data in the University of Chile. In the following you can find links to the most recent editions of the course. You can use and remix these slides for education/non-commerical purposes with a small attribution ("Based on slides by Aidan Hogan http://webofdatabook.org") whereever you deem appropriate. Be sure to choose the most recent year as slides are often corrected, improved, etc., from year to year.

A class for shapes (SHACL/ShEX) is coming soon! If you are interested in practical material for labs/flipped classrooms/exercises, drop me an email.
